The first-of-a-kind platform allows users to list and rent out underutilized commercial vans, trucks, tractors and trailers within a trusted industry network. Fleet owners can list their vehicles and times when they are available, and receive automated payments.

“COOP by Ryder aims to revolutionize the optimization and utilization of commercial trucks by helping fleet owners get the most value out of their fleets,” Robert Sanchez, Ryder chairman and CEO, said in a news release. “We are excited to launch this new platform that makes trucks shareable at a time when the sharing economy is driving innovation in many industries.”

According to Ryder telematics data, about 2 million commercial vehicles in the U.S. sit idle for more than one business day each week.

COOP by Ryder will be fully rolled out in Atlanta, Ga., in April. Ryder plans to expand the service to other markets in 2019. A company representative told Canadian Insurance Top Broker it was too soon to say whether the service would be made available in Canada.
