Markel International appoints new president of Canadian operations

mergersSpecialist insurer Markel International has appointed David A. Crozier president of Markel Canada, effective following the retirement of Karen Barkley at the end of this year.

Crozier most recently served as president and CEO of Everest Insurance Company of Canada. He will join Markel later this year before assuming his role as president in early 2019.

“David will develop Markel’s position in Canada as the go-to name for specialty insurance, building on the great foundations established by Karen, and opening up the Markel global product portfolio to the Canadian market,” Simon Wilson, managing director of Markel’s national markets, said in a news release.

Crozier has also had executive roles with Economical and Chubb.

William Stovin, president of Markel International, thanked Barkley for her accomplishments over the years, which included turning the former Elliott Special Risks from an MGA into a full insurance company.

Markel Canada has offices in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.
